WA State Invitations – On hold until July 2022?

AUSTRALIAN VISA NEWS AND INFORMATION

The Western Australian Government has met their quota of places for the WA State nomination program for 2021/22. What does this mean?

Invitations On Hold in Western Australia.

The Western Australia (WA) Government is continuing to process applications, but any that meet requirements will not receive an invitation–they’re placed on hold. No more invitations will be issued for the foreseeable future.

The Immigration Department only gave 1,440 invitations to the WA Government for 2021/22 and the WA Government have issued them all!

So when will there be more invitations?

Australian governments operate on a financial year from July to June, at the moment we are in the middle of the 2021/22 financial year. The Immigration Department have a budgeted all of the invitations for this financial year, no additional invitations will be created. The data is published on their website (see below). This means that the WA Government is not going to receive any more invitations until next budget, which normally occurs in July 2022.

The only way that more invitations will be issued this year is if the WA Government receive a transfer of invitations from another government, for example, South Australia give Western Australia some invitations…. there is no precedent for this happening. So it’s a matter of waiting at the moment until more invitations are budgeted by the Immigration Department.

The WA Premier asks for 5,000 invitations

Six months ago the Premier of Western Australia asked for an additional 5,000 invitations for the WA State nomination program, but ultimately it is the decision of the Immigration Department. In early July 2022, the Immigration department will allocate more invitations to Western Australia. Hopefully, next year WA will be allocated more than the 1,440 invitations issued this year.

What now?

The bad news is waiting times will increase, if you have not received an invitation you’re going to have to wait another five, six months. The good news is that the Premier is asking for 5,000 more places! So he is asking for a significant increase in the amount of invitations than have been budgeted previously. It could be a really good opportunity for students and workers in Western Australia.

I would like to remind people that now is the time to organise your skills assessment if you haven’t done so. Preparation is the key. Now, is the time to get all of that paperwork together and get a better English score.

Watch for late July 2022…

You will see the opportunities for invitations starting to come back in late July 2022. We should expect that if the Immigration Department listens to Premier McGowan, and gives him 5,000 places, then that will be really good for the State and really good for the hopeful visa applicants out there!
